SAN DIEGO NORTH CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU ADDS TWO KEY EXECUTIVES AS BUREAU TRIPLES IN SIZE

ESCONDIDO, CA (July 28, 2008) - San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau has added two new members to its team; Mark Erekson, as vice president of sales and marketing, and Greg Seckington, as director of finance and administration.

Erekson will oversee the 11-person sales and marketing team and be responsible for sales development, marketing, public relations, increasing brand awareness, and focusing on new corporate, association and incentive groups for the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau. A hospitality industry veteran, Erekson brings 35 years of hotel management, sales and marketing experience to the newly created position.

Most recently, Erekson served for ten years as corporate director of sales and marketing at the luxury 5-diamond Grand America Hotel and the Little America Hotel and Towers in Salt Lake City, Utah. Prior to that, Erekson worked as corporate director of sales and marketing for Evans Hotels in San Diego for seven years, and as the director of sales for the Catamaran Resort Hotel for four years. Currently residing in Del Mar, Erekson attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.

With 22 years of finance and accounting experience, Seckington will be responsible for finance, operations, human resources, membership and visitor services. Most recently, Seckington served as the business administrator for the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church and prior to that as controller for the National Powersport Auctions in Poway, finance manager for Gateway in Poway, and regional controller for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in San Diego. Seckington graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He resides in Rancho Penasquitos.

"With the extensive experience these two key team members bring to our organization, we are well-positioned for the dramatic growth and opportunity our Bureau faces as we continue to market the San Diego North destination as the premier resort region," said Cami Mattson, president and chief executive officer.

Bureau History
The San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau's began in 1976 as the Escondido Visitors and Information Bureau. With a budget under $500,000, it served as a thriving visitor center and mail fulfillment house for thousands of visitor inquiries. In 1993, the Bureau expanded its scope and services and changed its name to the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau.

With the growth of the region and its tourism and hospitality offerings, the budget has grown incrementally each year to a $1.1 million budget in 2007. Today, with the creation of the city of San Diego's Tourism Marketing District (TMD) the Bureau was able to triple its operating budget to more than $3.5 million for FY08-09.

In FY07-08, the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau was directly responsible for generating a total economic impact of over $45.3 million to the region.

Encompassing approximately 2,000 square miles, the San Diego North region extends from La Jolla north to Oceanside along 36 miles of coastline to the valley, mountain and desert communities of Escondido, Julian and the Anza-Borrego Desert.

The San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau's mission is to market San Diego North as a preferred visitor destination for the benefit of its members and its communities. Its primary purpose is to provide complimentary assistance in bringing leisure travelers, groups, conferences and events to San Diego North. They are a one-stop source to San Diego North's premier resorts, hotels, conference facilities, attractions and restaurants and are dedicated to ensuring success with events, tours and programs.
